The Community Development Department secures outside funding for city projects. The money may come from government or from private sources. It may be in the form of grants, loans, or bond proceeds. Some of the projects that have originated with the Community Development Department include the San Luis Cesar Chavez Cultural Center (financed with CDBG, USDA, and city funds), and a recently completed water project ("Water Wells 5&6") that was financed through USDA grants and loans augmented by proceeds from a bond issue. In conjunction with other city departments, Community Development staff members undertake efforts association with economic development. Currently, the department is developing the city's 66-acre industrial park.
