San Luis Fire Department Profile

The San Luis Fire Department proudly protects over 25,000 people in an area of approximately 35 square miles. Currently we operate out of one station. Our department is a public department made out of full-time professionals and a small number of part-time employees and eleven Fire Cadets.

We have a split 7 / 9 ISO Rating, which, we are planning and preparing to bring this rate down in the very near future.

The San Luis Fire Department was formed on a volunteer basis on or about 1981, and then by mid-July 1988 it began operating professionally hiring paid full-time firefighters. Today our department is comprised of 24 full-time and 6 part-time employees. We have 4 full-time Paramedics and 5 part-time Paramedics; we also have 3 firefighters in Paramedic school.

For Fire Protection we currently have a 61’ ft 1250 GPM Tele-Squirt – Ladder 1, we also have a 1250 GPM Pumper – Engine 1, and we have a third fire truck that has been retired, which, we use for civic duties, such as: parades, school fire prevention presentations, etc.

Our Haz-Mat Response Team is comprised of 13 Haz-Mat Technicians, a Pick-up Truck and a small Trailer and equipment.

Our department provides pre-hospital healthcare to our community with one ambulance vehicle owned by Rural Metro through a contract between the City of San Luis and R/M. An ordinary emergency response by our department includes: An ambulance with two employees, one Paramedic and one EMT; A fire truck with a five man company.
