"NEWLY REMODELED, SAN LUIS MUNICIPAL COURT IS NOW READY"
City of San Luis AZ
San Luis, Arizona – The San Luis Municipal Court House Is Excited About The Remodeled Ribbon Cutting Ceremony For The Court Building That Will Better Serve The Public.

The staff at San Luis Municipal Court is excited about the Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the newly remodeled court building that will better serve the public. The ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, August 16, at 7pm, and will mark the end of the renovations that took the better part of a year to complete. .

The courthouse was the San Luis’ first municipal building. It was constructed in 1982 by the City’s public works staff and volunteers. The late Charlie Page—then a city councilman—supervised construction. Originally, the building housed the town hall and a small police station. Soon after, the municipal court was added.

In 2008, when the city moved its administrative operations and police department to the new city complex, the court took over the entire building. The remodeling project began with the replacement of the building's roof. The former council chamber was then turned into a fully operational courtroom.

The lobby was the focus of the next part of the remodeling project. The courthouse lobby was expanded approximately 200 square feet to more than 700 square feet and for the first time included public restrooms, drinking fountains and a seating area.

The courthouse is now equipped with advanced video/audio recording equipment, as well as improved video conferencing technology that allows court appearances via video from the Yuma County Jail. Equipment for presenting evidence on a large screen was also installed in the courtroom.

With the addition of the court security and compliance division, plus weapons screening equipment, the San Luis Municipal Court has become the most secure rural courthouse in the county, and possibly, the state.

The public is invited to participate and enjoy the open house and refreshments. The Ribbon Cutting will be held at 767 N. First Avenue San Luis, Arizona.

For additional information about the Open House, please contact Andrea Ruiz, Administrative Assistant, at 928-341-8595.
