PLANNING AND ZONING

Mission Statement:
The City of San Luis Planning and Zoning Department continually strives to provide quality service and products regarding land information, land use, survey, rural addressing, and ordinance administration.

We at the City Of San Luis Planning and Zoning Department recognize the opportunity to provide effective service to the citizens of the City of San Luis. We undertake successful planning programs, policies, and activities in order to administer change to the extent that it improves our quality of life here in San Luis. Our advisory and administrative role is the means to improving our quality of life.

Planning & Zoning
A key role of the department is to guide the orderly growth of the City while maintaining the private property rights of the citizens. We strive towards fairly and equitably upholding laws and consistently administering rules and regulations adopted by the City Of San Luis Planning and Zoning Commission and the City Council. We pursue this mission of service to the taxpayers each day in accordance with the provisions contained in the City General Plan, Zoning Ordinance, Subdivision Ordinance, and within the context of Arizona Revised Statutes.

We constantly monitor, evaluate, measure, and review our performance from the perspective of our customers, the citizens. There is no substitute for direct citizen involvement in refining services and performance.

Permit Technicians

As permit Technicians for The City of San Luis, we perform technical work involving the processing of permit applications, calculating fees, issuing permits, reviewing development plans for zoning compliance and completeness.  We receive, log, route, and track various permits that are being processed. We provide information and service to developers, contractors, homeowners, members of the public and private agencies at the counter and by telephone. We assist the public by processing plans, forms and permit applications for various land use activities.

We review permit applications, plans and specifications to make sure all documents are in compliance with appropriate codes and standards. We assist in the calculations of fees in accordance with the established fee schedules. We maintain records and logs of plans and applications submitted to the City of San Luis Planning and Zoning department.

We maintain permit forms and handout material related to permit requirements and issuance.  We respond to inquiries and provide information related to permit procedures, policies and functions at the counter and over the telephone. In addition we coordinate the tracking, routing, and filing of plans and permits.

Building Safety
(Inspection Services)

Our mission is to create a comprehensive program to facilitate a more proactive role by code enforcement and to establish clear policy & procedures to resolve and manage illegally converted properties, code enforcement practices & procedures. We are currently working on eliminating hazardous materials, clutter around homes, and empty lots. The Mission of the Inspection Services Program is to safeguard life or limb, health, property and public welfare by inspecting buildings, structures and sites for compliance with local, state and federal laws regulating and controlling the construction, quality of materials, use and occupancy, location and maintenance within the City of San Luis.

Geographic Information Systems Mission Statement
GIS mission is to be on top of new technology and grow as other jurisdiction.  Our main objective is to provide prompt request, good customer service, and accurate information to satisfy our customer needs.

  • Maintain key data sets that are the underpinning information for Police, Fire, Engineering and several other departments
  • Operate as an internal service program, providing clients with data as well as standard and customized maps and reports.
  • Consult with clients to assist them in developing their requests for GIS information
  • Act as a liaison between the City and data partners that are external to the City in order to promote the City’s interests in their data.
  • Engage in research and development to take advantage of improvements in GIS and data technology.
