Mission Statement

Mission
The Records Division receives, routes and files criminal and other informational records required by the San Luis Police Department. On a daily basis, Records Division, maintains and prepares police reports, citations and other related duties. Additionally, the Records Division disseminates information to San Luis Police Officers, authorized agencies and the public as authorized and required by rule or law, on a promptly and efficient manner. We are a link between the public and police officers.

Records Services
Police Reports (Including Accident Reports):
To obtain a copy of a police report in person:
To obtain a copy of a police reports you need to complete a Public Records Request form. Your request must provide specific information about the incident as well as the reason for the request. A case number will assist us in obtaining your report promptly.

Hours of operation for Records Division are Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm.
You may call our business line before coming in to the Police Department to pick up a report; this will allow you to know if the police report in question is already filed in the Records Section. Our general business telephone is (928)341-2420.
Police Reports are usually available for pick-up seven (7) days after initial report date.
To obtain a copy of police report by mail:
You can also request a copy of a report by mail by filling the Public Records Request Form or by submitting a written request. The written request should list the following information: A case number, name of party involved, date and time of report, location of incident, the purpose for the information request and a contact number. Also include a check or money order of $3.00 per copy, made payable to the City of San Luis Police Department.

Departmental Reports $3.00 Up to 25 pages, additional pages are .25 cents each

Local Record Check Letter:
This letter will provide a local search of the San Luis Police Department’s files – ONLY, for individuals inquiring. A search of records from other jurisdictions is not conducted; you must contact each agency separately. You may only obtain a Record Check Letter on yourself.
To obtain the Record Check Letter, you need to come in person to the San Luis Police Department Lobby and fill out a Local Records Check Letter Form and present government issued identification.
You might have to return the following day to pick up your letter.
Record Check Letters are free of charge.
Fingerprinting:
Fingerprinting hours are Monday through Friday:
Mornings: 09:30 to 11:00 am
Afternoons: 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm
A valid government issued ID is required to be fingerprinted. If the fingerprinting is for employment, you must bring the fingerprint card with you, which is usually provided by your employer.
There is an $8.00 (eight dollar) fee PER fingerprint card.
The San Luis Police Department is not authorized to fingerprint any individual for Immigration and Naturalization Services.
Vehicle Impound Releases:
To obtain a Vehicle Impound Release you must come to the Police Department and present proof of ownership and a government issued identification, preferably a valid driver’s license. Vehicles are only released to the register owner of the vehicle or to an authorized representative.
What to do if you are unable to appear in person to obtain a Vehicle Release:
If you are unable to appear in person to obtain a Vehicle Release, you can send a representative along with a power-of-attorney letter which must include the following:
Your Name, your contact information (i.e. address, phone number), vehicle description; Name of your representative, send proof of ownership.
Authorized Representative MUST have a valid driver’s license.
Note: In either instance, where the Owner or the Authorized Representative does not have a VALID Driver’s License, they must be accompanied by another person that has a Valid Driver’s License.

If your vehicle was towed to our City Impound Yard, you will be escorted to the location by an officer.
The following fees apply only to our City Impound Yard:
Tow Charge: $65.00
Impound Storage: $15.00 per day
Impound Storage for trailers: $25.00 per day
Please call the corresponding towing company for their fees.
